He110 from MA555
I am Fabian MorĂ³n Zirfas and I am studying in the MAster 5tudio 5peculative 5oftware (MA555) here at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. I applied for this program in 2025 to get some academic input after quite some years out in the field as a creative technologist and educator. Currently my focus is on the overly hyped artificial intelligence and how it might influence our not so distant future; as designers but also as a society as a whole.
How do we interact with these new things that shape, eat, transform, consume, twist, clone us, our cultures, our worlds? What is Speculative Software? For me it consists of asking questions about our future and thinking about plausible answers (with software or not). So what if
- the singularity was already there but we didn't notice?
- we could own the platform where we discuss?
- the same rules we have in real life would be applied to the internet?
- the operators were legally accountable for their agents?
- the price of AI was measured on the resources it wastes?
- generative AI wasn't built on stolen goods?
- the voice in your head wasn't your inner monologue but a computer validating every thought?
- generative AI alignment was done with fair wages and not with cheap labour in the global south?
- generative AI UI did not anthropomorphize these statistical models?
- we could hear what our computer is doing all day?
- AI agents would use IRC?
- generative AI would refrain from giving false information?
- all skills are eroded due to massive usage of AI?
- we would create the electrical consumer?
- the big three were chopped by a small axe?
- Claude is absolutely right?
- we stopped learning new things since a computer can do it for us?
- the unaligned models got out?
- there was no colonization of South America. How would design look like?
- Gestalt would have been done in South America?
- the techno feudalists win?
- the tokens you can use are rationed?
- we could use it as a tutor not as a replacement?
- we run these models locally and not on the computers of some maniac tech bro?
- a human would have to sign off on every token?
